PAGES WITHIN THE SITE
HOME PAGE: We are sure you are all familiar with the concept of a home page on a web site. This is the default page shown when first logging on. All the sub pages of the Great Flatmate website can be accessed from here.
Login: Once registered, enter your email address and password then submit to access your account. If you’ve forgotten your password click the lost password link and you’ll be sent a reminder to your registered email account.
Quick Search: Firstly select whether you have a room or you need a room. There are two drop downs to choose from. Only select one and click the submit button under that drop down. All quick search results will be shown within five miles of the selected location. If you already know the advert reference number of the advert you are looking enter it in the lower box and submit.
Advanced Search: This opens a new advanced search page that allows you to be very specific with your search criteria. Firstly select whether you have a room or you need a room and click submit. This will then open the advanced search page.
Place A Free Advert: Click either I have a room or I need a room. This will then open page one of the registration form where you can begin registration and place your own advertisement.
MY ADVERTS PAGE: Once you have registered, this page allows you to control your advert, edit its content and images, refresh it and all the other stuff you need to do to take control of your advert within the Great Flatmate site. To perform actions on your advert remember to select it by clicking the radio button to the left of the advert title in the My Adverts pane. Then click the correct action button below the pain.
Refresh: When search results are shown of adverts placed on the site the order of adverts shown is most recent at the top followed by the older adverts. To keep your advert near the top of the search results ‘Refresh’ your advert and it will go back to the top of the results list.
Edit photos: This will open the image editing page where you can add and remove the pictures shown with your advert.
Edit advert: This will open the edit advert page where you can change any of your advert details if necessary.
View advert: This will open a window showing you how your advert will look when viewed by other users.
Delete advert: This will permanently delete your advert from the site, although your account will remain open. Your account can be closed by clicking Edit My Account in the orange user area.
Change to invisible: If your advert is no longer needed but you may want to use it again in the future click this to make your advert invisible to other users. When needed again, you can retrieve your advert by clicking View Invisible Adverts at the top of the My Adverts pane and then by clicking Change To Visible. Your advert will then be live back on the site.
Show matches: This will show all matching results for your advert.
+ Add a new advert: If you are a property owner or landlord with more than one property you can add more adverts to your account by clicking this button.
Personal web address: If you are a property owner or landlord, Great Flatmate automatically creates your own personal web address. This link can be sent to anyone via email where they can then view your room advert(s).
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How much does Great flat mate cost?
Nothing! The site is entirely free to use whether you are looking for a room or looking for a tenant or lodger. This includes browsing, advertising and contacting other advertisers. No catches, no hidden charges. All we ask is that you register your details before you start contacting other users.
Does greatflatmate.co.uk need any special settings on my computer ?
Most importantly, add greatflatmate.co.uk to your spam filter safe list to ensure you receive the emails we send to you. To use all the features of the site you should make sure that your browser has javascript enabled, and that pop-up windows are enabled for Greatflatmate.co.uk (different browsers do this in different ways). Errors are also sometimes caused by old "cookies" on your computer. Deleting these should help.

How do I know if another user's profile is accurate ?
You should exercise the same caution and judgment when interacting with another greatflatmate.co.uk user as you would with any other contact that you make on the Internet. Our service works extremely well for users who provide truthful honest descriptions of themselves and their properties and the vast majority of greatflatmate.co.uk members do exactly that. If you do find an advert that you deem to be misleading or offensive please let us know by using the ‘Report It’ link on the right hand panel of the results page.
Can I upload photos to my profile?
Yes. You can load up to 5 images to each advert in JPG format, with each image file being no greater than 2 MB. This can be done when registering or once registered, photos can be added or deleted by clicking on ‘Edit Photos’ in the ‘My Adverts’ section of ’My Account’.
When I conduct a search what order are the results placed in ?
Adverts results are automatically placed with the most recently placed at the top of the list. However, you can change the order of results by using the ‘Sort By’ feature at the top of the page.
How do I search for a specific advert?
Enter the advert reference number into the quick search box on the Home Page. This will take you directly to the full details for that advert.
What if I don’t want to receive emails from greatflatmate to my personal email account ?
You can switch off daily email alerts and all other emails from greatflatmate.co.uk to your personal email account by going to ‘Edit My Email Alerts’ in the my account section.
